24 junior high school students from Al-Ikhlas Junior High School Jakarta will represent Indonesia to perform in The 3rd International Children Festival in Fethiye, South Turkey. In this very first participation, these student will perform traditional dances and also take part in international dance competition followed by 22 dancing teams from all over the world.
Five traditional dances that will be performed in the eight days festival (21-28 April 2010) are: Pendet dance (Bali), Piring dance (West Sumatera), Satrio Watang dance (Central Java), Pukat dance (Aceh), and Kipah dance (Aceh). Kipah dance from Aceh will also be performed in the dance competition.
Al-Ikhlas Junior High School were appointed to represent Indonesia in The Festival after passing a strict selection process supervised by Liga Tari from University of Indonesia, while the Ministry of Culture and Tourism facilitate the dispatch to Turkey.
"Besides ensuring bilateral relation between Indonesia and Turkey, Ministry of Culture and Tourism support this activity to grow teenagers self confident to compete in International forum." said Noviendi Makalam, Secretary Director of Directorate general of Marketing after watching Gelar Pamit Duta Kesenian Indonesia at Balairung Sapta Pesona Building, Saturday morning (10/4).
According to Noviendi, Ministry of Culture and Tourism has programmed some projects/ activities supporting cultural event such as sending ambassadors to International Festival as a part of soft marketing. Soft marketing itself has a very significant effect in ensuring bilateral relationship and generating foreign visitors.
Turkey is one of potential sources of foreign visitors, especially from East Europe. The easy access from Turkey to Indonesia through direct flight provided by Turkish Airlines also have a contribution in increasing the number of foreign visitor from East Europe.
